Nourishment Starts with Clean Food

I have celiac disease.

For many years, I assumed my doctor had looked for the root cause of my suffering and was stumped. Instead of being given a simple blood test to determine if my chronic pain was food related, I was prescribed many medications.

These medicines affected my normal hormone production and resulted in symptoms of early menopause in my 30s. I eventually found a Naturopathic doctor who sought the root cause of my suffering. That first blood test gave me answers that changed the course of my life.

There are many reasons Americans are the sickest we’ve ever been. Today, I want to address one that is hot topic in the news and how it relates to cancer, celiac disease, and other autoimmune issues. I’m referring to glyphosate—an ingredient in Roundup and other commercial products used on MUCH OF OUR FOOD grown in the US.

What is Glyphosate?

Glyphosate is a widely used chemical herbicide—the primary active ingredient in professional-grade agricultural products like Roundup. It’s designed to kill weeds by interfering with a key plant enzyme system.

Glyphosate works by blocking the shikimate pathway, which plants need to make certain amino acids. Since animals (including humans) don’t have this pathway, glyphosate specifically targets plants.

If glyphosate can block the enzymes and amino acids in the growth of plants, it can also do damage to your digestion which then affects your brain and all other functions of your body.

Numerous studies have linked glyphosate to cancer. Additional illnesses related to its use include:

• Celiac disease

• Hashimoto's thyroiditis

• Rheumatoid arthritis

• Inflammatory bowel disease

• Multiple sclerosis

This topic is highly controversial because despite all the studies, Bayer — which acquired Monsanto last year — is currently advocating for broad legal immunity related to its commercial-grade agricultural pesticides. (See footnotes for links.)

As a consumer, this should make you angry.

I ask you, how in this modern world are we being poisoned without the ability to stop it? While Congress debates Bayer’s responsibilities, the only choice we have is to eliminate these poisons from our diet.

Foods to get rid of today:

1. Conventional Oats- Oat crops are treated with glyphosate before harvest as a drying aid (“desiccation”), which has raised residue concerns.

2. Conventional Wheat Products- Pre-harvest glyphosate spraying is used in nearly all wheat farming systems.

3. Processed Foods Made with Corn & Soy- Large amounts of genetically engineered corn and soy are grown in systems commonly using glyphosate.

4. Certain High-Residue Produce- These crops carry multiple pesticide residues including high use of glyphosate in conventional farming.

5. Cheap Ultra-Processed Foods- These foods often contain multiple commodity-crop ingredients tied to high-herbicide agriculture. These foods are the filthiest foods available, AS BAD AS FAST FOOD!

The EPA published this list of 12 produce items to avoid when grown non-organic. They’re appropriately called the “Dirty Dozen.”

1. Strawberries

2. Spinach

3. Kale/collard/mustard greens

4. Grapes

5. Peaches

6. Pears

7. Nectarines

8. Apples

9. Bell peppers & hot peppers

10. Cherries

11. Blueberries

12. Green beans

Thankfully, the EPA also gave us the “Clean Fifteen.” Though non-organic, these foods absorb little or no toxic residues and are safe to eat.

1. Avocados

2. Sweet corn

3. Pineapple

4. Onions

5. Papaya

6. Sweet peas (frozen)

7. Asparagus

8. Honeydew melon

9. Kiwi

10. Cabbage

11. Mushrooms

12. Mangoes

13. Sweet potatoes

14. Watermelon

15. Carrots

Avoiding the Dirty Dozen or eating the Clean Fifteen only addresses a fraction of our dietary needs. To make a real difference in your health, a fresh approach to REAL food is necessary.
