Hormones, Junk Food and Making Babies

Whether it matters to you personally or not, in the United States, we are experiencing a crisis in fertility as never before.

What is going on?

One of the main culprits is JUNK FOOD: ULTRAPROCESSED foods, fast food, prepackaged foods. Foods that are prepped to sit on a shelf are loaded with preservatives, sugar, seed oils, processed salts and other toxins to keep flavor high regardless of time on a shelf.

Issues specific to women include:

High consumption of junk food, which is often rich in trans fats, sugar, and refined carbohydrates, can disrupt hormonal balance. This can lead to issues like polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), which is a common cause of infertility.

  1. Insulin Resistance: Eating a lot of junk food can increase the risk of insulin resistance, which can affect ovulation and menstrual cycles, making it harder to conceive.

  2. Inflammation: Junk food can promote inflammation in the body, which may affect the reproductive organs and interfere with ovulation and implantation processes.

Issues specific to men include:

  1. Sperm Quality: High intake of junk food, especially those high in trans fats and sugars, is associated with lower sperm count and poorer sperm quality, including reduced motility and abnormal morphology.

  2. Oxidative Stress: Poor diet can increase oxidative stress, which damages sperm DNA and can impact male fertility.

  3. Hormonal Disruption: Junk foods often contain additives and chemicals that can act as endocrine disruptors, potentially affecting testosterone levels and sperm production.

For both men and women:

  • Weight Gain: Consuming a lot of junk food can lead to weight gain and obesity, which are known risk factors for reduced fertility in both men and women.

  • Nutrient Deficiency: Junk food is typically low in essential nutrients that are important for reproductive health, such as vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants.

  • Genetically Modified Organisms (GMO) Pesticide Use: One concern related to GMOs is the increased use of certain herbicides and pesticides, like glyphosate, which are commonly used on GMO crops designed to be resistant to these chemicals. There is some evidence that glyphosate and other herbicides could potentially affect reproductive health.

  • Nutritional Changes: Some argue that GMOs could potentially have unintended effects on the nutritional content of foods, which could indirectly affect fertility.

As both a Board Certified Holistic Nutritionist and also someone who has struggled with health issues directly impacted by Glyphosate poisoning of the food supply, I firmly believe a FIRST STEP IS TO GO FULLY ORGANIC IN YOUR HOME. Removing pesticides from your body will immediately improve your ability to absorb nutrients and detoxify.

**When we think about our health, the less damage you do from diet and lifestyle will start to improve your body’s ability to create another life and carry that life to the birth of a healthy baby.

Your body is designed to create and sustain life. Give it what it needs—good nutrition, movement, and sleep, and it will take good care of you for a lifetime.
