Grounding
Get Outside for Better Health
There has been a lot of talk and marketing around the benefits of being outdoors and grounding for mental and physical health. What is Grounding?
Grounding, also knowns a earthing is the practice of connecting directly with the Earth's surface, typically by walking barefoot outdoors or using grounding devices that conduct the Earth's energy. The idea behind grounding is that contact with the Earth's natural electric charge can have various health benefits.
Grounding has been reported to improve sleep quality by regulating circadian rhythms and reducing stress hormones like cortisol, which can interfere with sleep.
Many people claim that grounding can help reduce chronic pain and improve overall well-being by restoring the body's natural electrical balance. I personally try and ground several times a week to mitigate the effects of my own daily battle with chronic pain.
Grounding is believed to have a calming effect on the nervous system, helping to reduce stress, anxiety, and depression. Some proponents of grounding believe that it can enhance blood flow and cardiovascular function by reducing blood viscosity and improving the balance of red blood cells. There's some evidence to suggest that grounding can boost the immune system by reducing inflammation and promoting overall health.
Grounding or earthing can potentially help alleviate jet lag by helping to reset your body's internal clock and reducing fatigue. This practice can act as a form of shielding against electric fields (EF) and radiofrequency (RF) radiation from electronic devices. By connecting to the Earth's natural electric charge, groundingmay help dissipate or redirect some of the EMF energy away from the body.
Exposure to EMFs can increase the production of free radicals in the body, which can lead to oxidative stress and cellular damage. Grounding has antioxidant properties that may help neutralize free radicals and reduce oxidative stresscaused by EMF exposure.
Grounding can help children feel calmer and more relaxed by lowering cortisollevels, the stress hormone. This can be particularly helpful for children who experience anxiety or have difficulty managing their emotions.: Children are more likely to participate in grounding activities if they see adults doing it too. Make grounding a family activity and set a positive example for your kids. Explain to children in simple terms what grounding is and how it can benefit them. Teach them about the importance of connecting with nature and taking care of their mental and physical health.
Consistency is key to experiencing the full benefits of grounding for kids. Limit screen time and encourage children to take breaks from electronic devices to spend more time outdoors and engage in grounding activities. Pay attention to how your children respond to grounding activities and adjust accordingly. Encourage them to share their thoughts and feelings about the experience.
